Systems Administrator

Equinox Software is currently seeking a talented and dedicated Systems Administrator. Our Systems Administrators are responsible for the overall health and maintenance of customer-facing and internal servers and network infrastructure.

We are looking for the following qualities in a candidate:

  • Strong customer service focus
  • Extensive experience in a mission-critical Linux environment (Debian or Ubuntu strongly preferred)
  • Deep familiarity with Linux installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Deep familiarity with virtualization
  • Deep familiarity with network monitoring and management technologies
  • Familiarity with Linux HA and clustering technologies
  • Experience with bash and Perl scripting for system management and automation
  • Application development in Perl a strong plus
  • Experience exemplifying “laziness, impatience, and hubris” as defined by Larry Wall
  • Ability to work well with minimum direction
  • Ability to collaborate closely with others on mission-critical projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with libraries and library operations preferred but not required

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Maintains, installs, and upgrades all Equinox servers and systems, including a mission-critical customer-facing server cluster
  • Performs scripting and programming as needed to manage Equinox’s servers and systems and provide tools to Equinox’s customers.
  • Provides internal support to employees, both local and teleworkers
  • Participate in 24×7 rotating on-call shifts for critical issues
  • Configures, installs, and monitors a variety of applications in addition to Evergreen and Koha

Software Developer

Equinox Software is seeking a talented and dedicated Software Developer. Our Software Developers are responsible for creating innovative solutions to complex library problems using Open Source software, primarily Evergreen, Koha, and FulfILLment.

We are looking for the following qualities in a candidate:

  • Strong customer service focus
  • Extensive experience with application development in Perl
  • Experience with web front-end development, including modern JavaScript and CSS OR strong SQL skills, particularly with PostgreSQL
  • Experience developing  line-of-business web applications running on Linux environments
  • Experience exemplifying “laziness, impatience, and hubris” as defined by Larry Wall
  • Ability to work well with minimum direction
  • Ability to collaborate closely with others (both within Equinox and in the broader Open Source projects we work with) on mission-critical projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with libraries and library operations preferred but not required
  • Some experience with Linux system administration is a plus

  • Assist in the analysis and response to RFIs and RFPs for software development
  • Assist in the design and development of new features and fixes for software in use by Equinox’s clients
  • Create developer-oriented documentation and assist in the creation of end-user documentation
  • Active involvement within the larger Open Source communities surrounding the various software projects Equinox supports, including Koha, Evergreen, and FulfILLment.

DevOps Engineer
