Georgia Public Library Service Selects Equinox Software, Inc.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Equinox Software has been selected by the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) to provide Evergreen ILS support, software development, system administration, training and consulting services for the agency’s PINES program, a consortium of 265 public libraries. The agreement took effect July 1.

Evergreen was created by GPLS to support PINES-member public libraries. Since its debut in September 2006, the library automation system has received significant attention from libraries and library systems around the world. The software was designed from the ground up to be a flexible, fault-tolerant system capable of supporting libraries of all sizes. Boasting a myriad of standards-compliant methods to access and control data, Evergreen is a robust platform that evolves with the needs of even the most complex library system or consortium.

According to Brad LaJeunesse, President for Equinox, “Interest in Evergreen has grown explosively, especially after recent happenings in the ILS market space. This contract ensures that GPLS and PINES receive the attention and resources they deserve while providing Equinox the flexibility to help grow and sustain the larger Evergreen ILS community.”

“We are pleased to issue this sole-source contract to Equinox for software development and support services,” said Elizabeth McKinney de Garcia, PINES Program Director for GPLS. “It was important for us to continue working closely with the original Evergreen software developers. Being the authors of the software, the Equinox team members have exclusive and profound knowledge of the software that no other vendor can match, and they are the core of Evergreen’s open-source software community.”

The Equinox team, all of whom were involved in Evergreen’s creation, will work closely with GPLS staff on the continued support and development of the software, leveraging their unique expertise and experience with the Evergreen software. Equinox staff members will continue to serve GPLS as primary developers of the software, and they will provide the agency with 24/7 software support and system administration services.
